Hikaayat
Hikaayat (noun): stories, tales, narratives
ABOUT HIKAAYAT
Our magazine is dedicated to sharing the expression of Muslim women and men from around the world. It is the brainchild of three sisters who logged onto social and mainstream media finding narratives with very little we could relate to.
Hikaayat was born and is a place to share the mundane, the spectacular, the difficult, the funny, the frustrating, the beauty and the hope that is our lives. Intricate storytelling has captivated humanity for as long as we have existed and we wish to contribute to this rich tradition.
AT HIKAAYAT
At Hikaayat, we are looking for diverse stories from Muslims of all ages and backgrounds. We accept op-eds, articles, spiritual insights, news pieces, health and wellness, travel stories, book/film reviews and reflections on just about anything. After one year of publishing content by Muslim women only, we have decided to open our magazine to contribution from men too in order to create a platform for dialogue and collaboration.
The Hikaayat team is based in Cape Town and New York.
Our vision for Hikaayat is embodied in the meanings associated with our names, to elevate (Aaliyah), to be reminded of joy (Ibtisaam) and to inspire (Il-haam). We look forward to sharing the journey with you.
SHARING THE EXPRESSION OF MUSLIM WOMEN AND MEN

We have since opened up our space to Muslim men in order to promote dialogue and collaboration. Hikaayat is a place to share the mundane, the spectacular, the difficult, the funny, the frustrating, the beauty and the hope that is our lives.
