About Ali Hussain
Ali Hussain is a creative writer and musician. He obtained a PhD in Sufism from the University of Michigan, with his research focusing on the image of Jesus Christ in the writings of the Sufi saint Ibn 'Arabi. In 2018, Dr. Hussain founded the 'Nostalgic Remembrance Institute', an endeavor devoted to exploring the intersection of art, creativity and spirituality.
Dr. Hussain utilizes his academic training within the focus of this project to highlight the importance of art and the humanities for a healthy 'spiritual identity' in a globalized world. His publications include: "Mystical Musings of a Contemporary Dervish", "The Souk of Nostalgia: A Childhood Between Rivers and Mountains", "The Art of Ibn 'Arabi" and, most recently, "Art in Memoirs: Setting Forth".
His current projects include an artist residency at the Raise Karma collective, where he plays the Oud and teaches the spiritual dimensions of Arabic music.
